40s Hat - Sculptural Black Felt With Feathers

SKU: 00814-003
Sorry, this item has sold.

From the 1940s, possibly a bit earlier, a black fur felt hat with sculptural design and a bouquet of lush, brown feathers to frame your face.

Secure it with the strap which, contrary to what 5-year-old party goers might insist, belongs beneath your hair, at the back.

From my personal collection.

Labels:
Ella Buchanan Gunn, Atlanta --
(I found ads for this label from November 1930 through August 1947, with Gunn's obituary appearing in the 21 May 1951 Atlanta Constitution, noting she'd been ill for about 5 years. Also, the surname Ruth may be a misspelling of Routh.)

Merrimac -- makers of hats and hat bodies (from which milliners could fashion their own designs), from the 1860s through the 1950s.
