50s Navy Blue Skirt Suit

From the 1950s, a skirt suit in navy blue with immaculate construction and fine details:

* Fully lined jacket with curvy, New Look silhouette, angled bound buttonholes, curved pockets, multiple seams for shaping, tuck details at bodice, notched cuff, and satin double collar.
* Unlined straight skirt closes with a zipper and button at each side (can't say I've seen that before). Plenty of seams and darts for fit, and triple pleats at the walking slit.

If I could squeeze into this, I would never let it go. Superb mid-century quality. Color is true navy blue.

Labels: Townley Muse's, Briarbrook Tailored by Leslie Fay
Muse's was a fine department store on Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta:
Muse's Atlanta
Founded in 1947, Leslie Fay, is not known for being particularly fashionable. But that wasn't always the case, and this Briarbrook label appears to have indicated a higher-end line.

Fiber/Care: no tags, feels like a wool/silk blend with a very fine, every so slightly rough hand. crepe lining and satin collar are most likely rayon. / dry-clean

Condition: no flaws to note. we've reinforced the button that's safety pinned in the photo.

*We've had this skirt suit professionally dry-cleaned and it's ready to wear.*
