20s Long Sleeve Day Dress in Blue Swiss Dot

SKU: 00419-048
Sorry, this item has sold.

Long-sleeved day dress from the mid-1920s in periwinkle blue dotted swiss. Pointed collar and hand-smocked upper bodice and cuffs are hand-embroidered in white, blues, and yellow. Self-fabric belt has mother of pearl buckle. Skirt has inverted pleats on either side, from belt level to hem. Closes (and opens) only at the bodice and cuff, with hooks&eyes. Unlined.

The cotton fabric is extremely soft and lightweight (as voile or batiste). Sheer enough that you'll need a slip for modesty. From the remarkable Jamieson estate, spanning two centuries in style.

Labels: none - home sewn (though probably not by anyone in the Jamieson family who were not fond of needlework, I'm told)

Fiber/Care: cotton dotted swiss (the real deal, with woven, not printed or flocked, polka dots), MOP buckle. Gently washable.

Condition: really quite good. strong, sturdy, wearable. a few small holes, as shown, conveniently inconspicuous (we suggest patching from the inside with matching fabric to prevent them growing larger over time). some minor stains on the lower, inner part of the left sleeve. A few strands of embroidery have worked loose. One thread belt loop is missing. We stitched closed a few open seams at the hem and replaced one hook (bodice) and one eye (right cuff).

*This day dress is freshly laundered and ready to wear.*

Garment Measurements:
As is typical of dresses from this era, there are no darts for shaping, and you'll need to slip it on and off over your head. Thus, you'll want your body measurements to be quite a bit smaller than those of the dress. This will let you get in and out without damaging yourself or the dress, and allow it to hang loosely, cinched only at the hip, as was the style.

bust, waist, high hip: 41"/104cm
low waist to hem: opening to 50"/127cm
belt: 41x1.25" / 104x3cm
sleeves (raglan, so measured beneath): 16.5"/42cm
total length: <42"/106.5cm
