From the 1940s, a ball gown of periwinkle blue satin and tulle net with matching bolero jacket. Dress bodice is fully boned with velvet straps and scattered rhinestone-centered flowers at the bust. Skirt has two layers of tulle netting over a silky lining. Could easily be shortened to tea or street length. Closes at side with a metal zipper.
Would make a terrific option for a vintage-loving bride ("something old/something blue") or one of her attendants.
Labels: none in garments, but had original Muse's tag attached. The George Muse company grew out of a dry-goods store opened in the 1840s. Muse's famous shop on Peachtree Street was built in 1921 and remained in business until 1992. It now houses "The Loft at Muse's" condominiums.
Fiber/Care: satin, tulle, velvet of synthetic and blended fibers, dry-clean only
Condition: when we acquired this gown it appeared to be unworn, with the original tags attached, but suffered from "closet aging." We removed the tags and had it professionally dry-cleaned. It presents beautifully and looks new from afar and even close up. But close inspection under strong lights reveals scattered, allover foxing (the worst is on the skirt lining and doesn't show at all, the rest is nearly invisible unless you look very closely under bright lights). There's a dime-sized spot on the inner layer of the tulle at middle front of the skirt, which I only found when spreading the skirt for measuring. Price has been adjusted accordingly.
*We've had this party dress and bolero jacket set professionally dry-cleaned and it's ready to wear.*
bodice: from top of strap 16.5"/42cm, from top of cup 11"/28cm
side length, underarm to waist: 8"/20cm
bust: 32"/81.25cm + seams to fit up to 35.5"/90cm
hips (lining, at 9" below waist): 41"/104cm
skirt length: 42"/106.5cm
shoulders: approx. 15"/38cm
bust (open, as worn): up to at least 36"/91.5cm
This dress fits me fairly well (I like my waistbands tight and this one is not). I'm 35.5" around the bust (32D), 26.5" waist. Cecelia the dress form is 33.5" bust, 23" waist, and the dress is shown clipped to fit her (which makes the back look a bit wrinkly).
