This dress is beautifully made and feels heavenly. The fabric is a very soft, lightweight, semi-sheer cotton gauze or batiste, in coffee brown. Details include horizontal pleats at the bodice, inverted pleats in place of bust and hip darts, and a back kick pleat. The fabric is doubled everywhere but the upper bodice and sleeves, with no additional lining.
There are thread belt loops, and a wide, tapestry belt with rose pattern and a touch of metallic gold. Interior seams are pinked. Neck and sleeve seams, and even the zipper allowance are all cleanly finished. There is hem tape at the hem, waist, and the shoulder seams for extra support. Union made, with great care, in the late 50s or early 60s.
Labels: only the tiny edge of an ILGWU label (most likely 1955-63, but possibly '63-74) remains
Fiber/Care: unmarked, feels like softest woven cotton, possibly a blend for a bit of strength, dry-cleaning recommended
Condition: in terrific shape with no flaws to note. we suspect the belt is not original (it hardly fits through the thread loops), but it is well made and certainly looks pretty with the dress.
*We've had this dress professionally dry-cleaned and it is ready to wear.*
