40s/50s Periwinkle Blue Taffeta Party Dress

From the New Look era of the late 1940s and early 1950s, a swoon-worthy party dress in periwinkle blue taffeta.

• gorgeous, slightly iridescent, periwinkle (purplish blue) changeable taffeta 
• crumb-catcher portrait collar over short, cap sleeves
• unlined bodice has horizontal bust seam and princess seams to accentuate and flatter your curves
• drop waist dips very low at back
• bows in back, at top of metal back zipper and at bottom of pointed, drop-waist detail
• nearly-a-full-circle skirt to wear with or without a crinoline (ours as shown is not included) has separate lining
• Perfect for prom, quinceanera, a wedding-related event (it's something old, new to you, and something blue), or any special occasion

Labels: only a style/size tag remains

Fiber/Care: no tags, feels like an acetate blend, crisp and cool / dry-cleaning recommended just to be safe

Condition: 

Came to us with a very old dry-cleaning tag attached (we removed it), but has acquired scattered age spots in the interim (some shown in photo collage, but please look very carefully at ALL the photos, as the spots are light, diffuse, and scattered throughout. Please note that the spots are only conspicuous under bright lights. They're not noticeable in ordinary indoor lighting, and would be all but invisible in a party/evening event setting. These subtle spots may lift with cleaning, but we make no guarantees as they have been there for a long time.

There are wedge-shaped insets of matching (original) fabric at either side of the bodice. These may be part of the original design, or may have been inserted at some point in the distant past to accommodate a larger bust. They could easily be removed and the seam sewn shut to make the dress 4"/10cm smaller at the bust, tapering toward the natural waist. This dress presents beautifully. It's a stunner.
