Repro Regency Chemisette in Fine White Netting
Modern reproduction of a Regency-era modesty blouse, meant to fill in the neckline of plunging dresses. This one, from my personal collection, is made of a fine, white tulle.
- Feels light as a feather, just lovely.
- Three rows of neck ruffles.
- Closes at the neck with adjustable cotton tie and at the hem with adjustable slim ribbon.
- Chemisette means "little shirt" in French. In addition to being stylish, these were similar in purpose to a modern dickey, adding coverage for occasions where showing too much skin would be inappropriate.
- Could, theoretically, be worn with the opening at the back, although that isn't historically accurate and the shoulder seams indicate front opening.
Labels: none - individually hand-made (machine sewn) by an independent seamstress
Fiber/Care: synthetic or blend fine tulle netting / washable (flat or drip dry)
Condition: no flaws; clean and ready to wear
