40s Black Taffeta Hat

SKU: 00713-003
Sorry, this item has sold.

From the 1940s, a sculptural hat in jet black taffeta with a pale peach silk rose nestled in the front fold. Four-part soft crown. The underside of the brim features concentric circles resembling quilting. Wear it at whatever angle suits you. That's the only "rule" with hats.

Labels: Schleisner Co. (upscale clothing store, 1906-1962), New York Creation (union label used 1941-'55)

Materials: Taffeta (probably rayon), grograin inner band, silk floral

Dimensions: size 22, will fit just about any head, as it's a shallow crown and can be positioned however you prefer. Brim at widest point (front) is 3"/7.5cm deep. Overall, very approximately 10.5"/26.5cm front to back, 9.5"/24cm side to side.

Condition: Good, with a few spots scattered here and there (inconspicuous). Pin was already in it, and is a bit rusty (though easily removable). We've given it the museum freezer treatment, but haven't actually cleaned it. Price reflects the minor imperfections.

Our items are not newly manufactured "vintage style" pieces. They are true vintage, at least 30 years old. Please read condition report provided above.
