20s Black Velvet Long Sleeve Dress

From the mid-1920s, a drop-waist flapper dress in silk velvet with V-neckline and long sleeves. Velvet rose at left shoulder. Sparkling art deco embellishment of prong-set rhinestones at center of the modified hip peplum. Swishy skirt with ruched and gathered center panel. Very soft and comfortable to wear. Slips over the head. There are snaps at the left shoulder and each of the slim-fitting cuffs with floral rhinestone buttons. From my personal collection.

Fiber/Care: no tags, silk velvet, silk lining at bodice, rhinestones, and millinery floral material in center of rose, dry-clean only

Condition: this one looks nearly perfect, but it's not. there's a repair to the back of the right shoulder at the seam (would disappear if redone, but we never did). but that's not why it's priced so low. the fact is, we don't know how long it will last, and we recommend avoiding white sofas, as the velvet is beginning to give up the ghost. drag your nails down the front and you'll have a bit of black under them (we don't recommend scratching your antique dress). that said, the dress is quite beautiful, feels wonderful, and it should see you through at least a few Downton Abbey parties, museum visits, and afternoon teas. Just avoid doing the Charleston at the speakeasy in this one! We haven't cleaned it. It's fresh and wearable as is with no visible stains, no odors, nothing icky at all. We opted to avoid the chemicals.
