Wow! Late 1940s or early 1950s New Look party dress is perfection in black velvet atop silk organza. Bodice has a face-framing, wide-set roll neck that continues into a deep, open V at back. Kimono-cut short sleeves. Acetate lining at top bodice only. Nipped waist with notched peplum. Seams provide shaping front and back. Semi-sheer, full-circle skirt is flat beneath the peplum to flatter the hips, then pleats and a super-soft built-in crinoline create fullness (we show it with and without an additional crinoline, not included). Three bands of silver metallic stripe add subtle shimmer. Metal Lucky back zip with hooks&eyes at top and waist. Just exquisite. From the Shields estate.
Labels: none - looks to be home sewn with skill and a whole lot of work
Fiber/Care: unmarked, feels like silk velvet and organza with metallic, dry-clean
Condition: there are two repairs at back right (see photos), there are a few areas of very minor discoloration on the velvet, the zipper is a bit sticky
*This dress has been professionally dry-cleaned and is ready to wear.*
