A confection in periwinkle blue tulle net from the late 1940s or early 50s. Color has a hint of gray and appears lavender in certain light. Luscious sprigs of purple fabric flowers catch folds of netting at the fully boned sweetheart bodice, the waist, and the hip. Very full-skirted dress could be worn over a small crinoline if desired (we have a few for sale, please inquire), although we show it without one. Fully lined in acetate. Closes at the side with a metal Talon zipper with several sets of hooks&eyes over the zip for a smooth finish. There is a separate strap that could be tacked in at the bodice to create a halter (not shown) if you'd prefer not to go strapless. From the Sherman estate.
Labels: Cotillion Originals
Fiber/Care: no tags, nylon net tulle over acetate lining, dry-clean (although it should be washable provided you remove the flower bunches beforehand -- you'd just need to snip a few threads, then retack the bunches after allowing the clean dress to drip dry)
Condition: presents beautifully, but there are some minor glitches. the lining is stained at the hem and has some color shift at the bodice, as shown. there are a few minor nicks to the netting at the hem, and a few teensy spots (truly minute and lost in folds). this dress came to us in dire need of cleaning and our dry-cleaner did a very good job, but he left a bit of cleaning residue (which has a lovely floral scent, but gives the net layers a slightly crunchy feel). it does not effect wear and should rinse out in the next cleaning.
*We've had this ball gown professionally dry-cleaned and it's ready to wear.*
