Labels: Florence Lustig
Florence Lustig incorporated in 1940 and ran her successful boutique on New York's posh 57th St. before opening branches in the finest hotels in Miami and Palm Beach, Florida. From the 1940s through the 1960s, Lustig outfitted and socialized with celebrities. Her coveted fashions were finely made and expensive.
Fiber/Care: no tags, silk / gently hand-wash (and spend an hour carefully pressing) or dry-clean
Condition: this dress came to us in a sad state, with its sheer silk organza overlay badly stained and shattering. the beautiful silk layer beneath was sound and worth rescuing. so we gave it a gentle but thorough wash, then removed the outer layer, replaced or reinforced hooks&eyes as needed, stitched in the crinoline that had been haphazardly pinned in place, added adjustable velvet straps, and gave the dress a good pressing. All the work was done by hand using 100% silk thread. There are two remaining stains, at front as shown. they were revealed only under the harsh photography lights and are nearly invisible in ordinary lighting.
*This dress is freshly laundered and ready to wear.*
bodice (from top of cup): 11"/28cm
bust: 32"/81.25cm flat, plus plenty room from seaming
waist: 23"/58cm+ (note that it closes easily on Delphine, who has
a 24"/61cm waist with no give at all). There is also plenty of seam
allowance in the skirt.
belt: 1"/2.5cm x 24"/61cm (can be up to 3" longer, if you
moved the hooks&eyes and snap)
skirt length: 30"/76cm
hem sweep: 168"/427cm (more than a circle)
For reference, the white mannequin, Delphine, measures bust: 32", ribs: 27", waist: 24" and the dress is too big in the bust, slightly big in the torso, and fits her waist easily. It's small, but not as tiny as the measurements would suggest. There are also generous seam allowances in the skirt (and probably in the bodice beneath the lining).
