50s White Doeskin Opera Gloves - sz 7

From the 1950s, a pair of creamy white doeskin leather opera gloves in their original box.

• 3 faux-pearl buttons at the "mousequetaire" opening allows you to slip your hand in and out to dine (as etiquette dictates)
• well over the elbow, which is what makes them true opera gloves, anything up to the elbow can only be called "evening" gloves
• softest, supple leather
• Made in Italy

Did you know that the proper name for these beauties is 22-Button Mousquetaire Opera Gloves? The word Button as used here is a glove-specific term that describes length, regardless of whether a pair has any buttons or not!

Founded in Indiana, the company was already in business 23 years by the time it opened a NYC location in 1910. A personal favorite of mine, they (and B. Altman & Co.) had a wide selection of Madame Alexander dolls. In the 1947 film Miracle on 34th Street, Macy's Santa sent customers across the street to Gimbels, infuriating management.

Condition: very minor signs of age, such as slightest discoloration on the palm side of the fingers and the ghosts of fold lines

middle finger itself is about 2.5"/5cm long
across palm is 3.25"/8.25cm
across end of gloves at opening is >5.5"/14cm, so about 11"/28cm+ around (and has give)

The phrase "fits like a glove" means more than "fits well," it means it fits very snuggly indeed (not tight or constricting, but like a second skin). It's a bit of a process to get well-fitting gloves on -- don't expect to don and doff them repeatedly all evening. They should be on when you leave the house. Be patient -- the results are well worth it. And yes, you can use your touch screen gadgets while wearing them!
