60s Black Cashmere Winter Coat with Mink Collar
Beautifully made winter coat in soft black cashmere with a fabulous natural mink collar to wear open or closed. Raglan sleeves. Fully lined in silky black satin. Closes with three big covered buttons and a large snap. Bound buttonholes. There are two angled besom pockets to warm your hands and hold your gloves. Practical and versatile -- it coordinates with everything from jeans to formals.
Made by Imperial Majesty for Gimbels, which, you'll recall from "Miracle on 34th Street," had its flagship store directly across from Macy's Herald Square. On a personal note, it was also the source of my most cherished Madame Alexander doll. A lovely store, indeed. And you can bet it had a "Better Dresses" department!
Labels: Imperial Majesty 100% Cashmere Hand Tailored Expressly for Gimbels, 1963-'74 Union label
Fiber/Care: cashmere and mink, dry-clean only
Condition: There is a small area at the lower front, just below the buttonholes, that looks like it may have been nibbled or otherwise worn. There are no holes, and you can only see this imperfection on close inspection under bright lights. The fur collar has some areas of wear/matting, but overall is shiny and supple. Price reflects these imperfections.
Measurements: (loose, swingy cut)
shoulders: free (raglan cut)
bust: 53" (no darts)
sleeves: 14" measured underneath
waist: 56"

Note: The fur collar is attached with widely spaced hand-stitching. It could be removed completely during warmer months or for cleaning, creating a mod, collarless silhouette.
