Victorian Belt in Brown Velvet and Genuine Silver
From the late Victorian era, an original antique cummerbund-style wide belt.
- dark brown silk velvet fabric
- genuine silver (probably German 800) decorative bars with golden-hued gems
- closes with three hooks&eyes creating a ruffled decoration at back, meant to sit above your bustle (or look cute with your modern clothes)
- late Victorian, most likely 1875-1900
The antique-jewelry expert we consulted placed the date between 1875 and 1900, and suspect the silver is at least 800 purity. We've been unable to identify the maker, despite the jeweler's mark.
Labels: AK Deposé ("trademarked") maker's mark on the back of each of the five vertical bars
Materials: silk velvet, genuine silver, paste faux gems
Condition: overall, very good and totally wearable. belt has no flaws to speak of. the vertical bars are missing lots of the golden-hued "gems."
